Winner of the 2018 FutureArc Green Leadership Award and the 2017 LEAF (Leading European Architects Forum) award for the best commercial building in the world.

In the design proposal for the industrial facility for Paramit in Malaysia the “Factory in the forest” aims to connect the factory with a man-made forest; hence, blurring the boundary between building and nature. Daylight, greenery and vistas were key considerations from the start. The louvered canopy roof connects indoor with outdoor, delineating semi-covered landscaped spaces that are lush and green, factors which are greatly noticed in the efficiency of the employees working there. Thus, the project is devoid of the monotonous and soulless industrial architecture characteristic of conventional factory design.

 

 

Memo

환경적인 문제로 자연과 더불어 살아갈 수 있는 공간이 필요하다고 느끼는 요즘이다.

Jonh Bulcock의 Factory in the forest는 자연안에 공간을 제공하는 건축물이라고 생각한다.

마치 숲속에 버려진 건축물 같은 이 작품은 그가 의도한 건물과 자연의 경계를 완벽히 부순 결과물이라 생각한다.

에너지와 재료를 재사용하는 건축물도 좋지만 애초에 자연을 없애고 새로 짓는 것보다 자연 그대로의 공간을 살리고 공존할 수 있는 방법으로 접근하는 방법의 스터디가 필요하겠다라는 생각이 들게 해준 작품이다.
